FAQ's


Q: Is this recreational or competitive?

A: This is pre-competitive. The program bridges recreational to competitive soccer by preparing players for the next level. 


Q: How is Youth Academy different from Youth Development (Rec)?
A: 

  • Team Formation is Designed & Intentional
  • Every coach is licensed, professional and following WSA's teaching model
  • Competition is usually at a higher level 
  • Year round, rather than seasonal
  • Training is Structured around WSA's Game Model & Principles of Play


Q: Does my child need experience?
A: No. Players can join the Youth Academy at any entry point between the ages of 7-10.  The WSA Youth Academy contains multiple levels and tiers. Our coaches goal is to help players move through the stages of ball mastery and skill acquisition, no matter the base level of experience of the athlete.


Q: Is travel required?
A: Minimally.  Nearly 80% of the games will be played locally. 

The U10 Academy teams may travel to one tournament per season. 

The U9-U10 teams may travel 1-2 times within the State for games or festivals. 


Q: Can my child play other sports?

Yes. WSA encourages multi-sport athletes and diverse participation in activities, especially at a younger age. 


Q: What happens after Academy?
Players have the option at U11 to enter the WSA Competitive Program or the Youth Development Program.
The purpose of the development plan for the Youth Academy is to prepare players for WSA's Competitive program. 


Q: How are teams formed?

Teams are formed by design of the staff. 
Every player is provided an opportunity to join of the WSA Youth Academy teams. 
Some teams are formed by "level" of play as determined by evaluations of the coaches. 
There is fluid player movement between teams to ensure players are in an environment that confers both success and challenge in good measure.


Q: How much commitment is expected?

The Youth Academy Program is a year-long program. 
In Season the teams will train 2X weekly.
Out of season the teams will train 1X weekly. 
Some of the teams will play Futsal during the Winter & Summer time periods. 


Q: Can we join "mid-year"?
Yes. Players can join the program mid-year.  The youth academy is intended to be flexible and accommodating.
