PLAYER PROMOTION PROCESS

WSA Boys National Program

Pathway to Pro

A guided process that identifies, prepares and promotes players for meaningful evaluation opportunities within professional soccer environments.

Identify • Recommend • Promote • Trial • Follow Through

I

Identify

A complete player profile built through observation, performance data and external review.

1

Internal Identification in Organic Settings

SubjectiveWSA National Program club directors and staff provide evaluations and recommendations, with review by international scout Jorge Alvial.

ObjectiveStatistical analysis, match data and objective film-analysis metrics.

2

Internal Identification in Controlled Settings

SubjectivePlayer evaluation at WSA Talent ID Centers and showcases.

ObjectiveBiometrics, physical-performance metrics and standardized test-in data.

3

External Review

SCOUTSIndependent, non-WSA talent scouts may be invited to observe WSA ID Centers.

Player ProfileWSA compiles each selected player's reports, video, statistics, biometrics and physical metrics, then shares the collective profile with professional scouts across WSA's networked clubs.

II

Recommend & Promote

The player and family receive the opportunity, information and choice.

1

Invitation

The player receives a written invitation. Before the letter is issued, a club staff member may communicate the opportunity verbally.

2

Required Player-Parent Information Meeting

The player and a parent attend a required pre-professional seminar outlining the opportunity, commitments, expectations, next steps and anticipated budget.

3

Decision

After reviewing the information, the player and family select one of three responses. Each decision leads to the following outcome:

Accept Move to the next step and begin preparing for the professional trial.
Defer Work with WSA to identify a possible future date when the player is ready. Deferral does not guarantee a future trial opportunity.
Decline Choose not to pursue this opportunity at this time.
III

Trial With a Professional Club

Prepare, commit, participate, receive direction and sustain the pathway.

1

Review & Prepare

The player and parent review travel, budget, missed school, supervision, safety and all participation requirements.

  • Secure a valid passport.
  • Understand and prepare the required trip budget.
  • Sign the waiver and permission to participate.
  • Complete the required WSA player-parent seminar.
  • Sign the WSA Mission and Core Values responsibilities.
  • Review professional-contract consequences and options.
2

Commitment

The player and parent sign an acknowledgment of expectations and formally accept the trialist opportunity.

3

Professional Trial

The player participates fully for a 7–14 day window within a professional club academy or first-team environment. Placement depends on the player's age, readiness and recommended pathway.

4

Deliverable & Next Step

Most CommonReturn to the WSA Academy environment with club feedback and a development plan.

Other OutcomesA permanent or semi-permanent academy place for a younger player; a short-term professional agreement for an older player; or continued tracking and a future return invitation.

WSA AdvisementJorge Alvial, Claudio Muñoz, Matt Rogers and Roger Bush.

5

Follow Through & Follow Up

WSA receives feedback from the professional club, shares it with the player and family, and helps the player sustain a realistic pathway toward long-term development, dreams and ambitions.

Age-Appropriate International Pathways

The destination and environment are selected according to the player's age, readiness and development needs.

U13–U15

Spain & LaLiga Academy Settings

Levante UD • Real Betis • Getafe CF • CD Leganés

The player enters an international academy program, lives with the team for approximately one week in club housing and participates fully in training.

The expected outcome is an evaluation, recommendation and possible tracking for a future return. In rare cases, a player may be asked to extend the stay or return soon for a significant placement opportunity.

U15–U23

Professional Environments

Panama • Chile • Mexico • Honduras

The player joins a professional club under a short-term trialist agreement.

The trial may be extended, the player may be invited to return, or the player may be placed with a collaborating lower-division club so development can continue to be observed in a professional setting.

Important: Identification, selection and participation in a professional trial do not guarantee a contract, roster position or professional placement.
