OPEN SESSION

Open to Non-WSA Athletes Year-Round & During Tryout Phase

OPEN SESSION

WHAT IS AN OPEN SESSION?  A training session that is "open" to non-WSA athletes.

WHY OPEN SESSIONS?  At WSA this session is an exploratory opportunity for the non-WSA athlete.

WHEN OPEN SESSIONS?  For non-WSA athletes you can request an open session throughout the year, provided you are not registered to the same league as the WSA team you wish to join an open session for.

TRYOUTS & OPEN SESSIONS?

The "tryout phase" is dictated by the National rules governing all clubs.  Click here to read those rules.  Generally May 1 is the first date a player can register or tryout on an NPL or OPC team, and the second Monday in May for an ECNL or ECNL RL team.  WSA will abide by those rules, regardless of our nearby competitors application or non-application of those rules.  Tryouts are an OPEN SESSION.  WSA will afford opportunity for NON-WSA ATHLETES to be evaluated during our "tryout phase" of the player placement process.

OPENS SESSIONS & AGE GROUP SESSIONS?

An age-group session is an internal session amongst or across age groups within the teams that belong to WSA.  An age group session drives community, provides opportunity for great player evaluation, may serve as an ID Center, creates familiarity between staff and athletes to facilitate intra-club player sharing, movement, and development.

SUMMARY OF THE OPEN SESSION PROCESS AT WSA SOCCER

  • An open session permits players from outside of WSA to participate to evaluate if WSA Soccer is a good fit.
  • Any athlete may request an open session opportunity throughout the year, provided the athlete is not registered to one WSA Soccer's league platforms (OPC, NPL, ECNL or ECNL-RL).
  • Players with a release might be permitted to attend if the open session does not ocurr during the permitted "tryout phase".
  • It is important to WSA that players currently rostered to another club are communicating with their other club and fulfilling their responsibilities to their teammates.
  • WSA WILL create a TRYOUT PHASE during PLAYER PLACEMENT each Spring for players to have opportunities to be evaluated for placement into WSA teams.
  • The timing of "tryouts" will be per league rules.
  • Athletes from non-WSA Clubs interested in joining WSA may participate in the TRYOUT PHASE of PLAYER PLACEMENT, or with permission attend Open Sessions.
  • WSA will host internal "age group" sessions which are focused on current WSA athletes & teams.
  • "Current ECNL & ECNL RL players from outside of WSA Soccer are not permitted to attend until the ECNL posted TRYOUT PHASE is permitted to begin" - ECNL League Office.
