IMMEDIATE PROTECTION PATHWAY

WSA Parent Communication Pathway

Immediate Protection Pathway

If an athlete may be unsafe or at risk of harm, act immediately. Do not wait for a pattern, a preferred meeting day, or the ordinary coach-first process.

Is anyone in immediate danger?

Contact emergency services or the appropriate public authority first. Then notify WSA.

Call 911

Use this pathway when

Immediate safety risk

An athlete may be unsafe, at risk of harm, or in need of immediate intervention.

Abuse harassment or hazing

There is suspected abuse, neglect, harassment, discrimination, hazing, threats, violence, or serious bullying.

Medical or mental health emergency

There is a serious medical concern or concern about self-harm or danger to another person.

Serious misconduct or retaliation

There is alleged retaliation, serious adult misconduct, or an inappropriate adult-athlete boundary.

Unsafe communication or supervision

Travel, lodging, transportation, supervision, electronic communication, or social-media conduct creates a meaningful safety concern.

When direct coach contact is inappropriate

The allegation involves the coach, or contacting the coach directly would be unsafe or unreasonable.

What to do now

  1. Address immediate danger first. Contact emergency services, law enforcement, medical personnel, or another appropriate public authority when necessary.
  2. Notify WSA immediately. Contact the team coach, an appropriate club official, or a member of the WSA Board of Directors.
  3. Bypass the coach when appropriate. If the allegation involves the coach—or direct contact would be unsafe—contact club leadership or the Board directly.
  4. Preserve relevant information. Retain messages, screenshots, dates, names, medical instructions, or other material that may help WSA and the appropriate authorities respond.

Be prepared to provide

  • The athlete’s name, team, and present location when relevant
  • What happened or what is reasonably suspected
  • When and where the event occurred
  • Who may be involved and who may have witnessed it
  • Whether medical, protective, or law-enforcement action has already been taken
  • How the reporting person can be reached for follow-up

Contact WSA

Select the most appropriate contact. If the allegation involves one of these individuals, use another listed contact.

Good-faith reporting is encouraged. WSA may contact the appropriate governing body or public authority and may ask the reporting person to provide additional information. Knowingly false, malicious, or deliberately misleading reports may be addressed under applicable club policy.
